Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approves proposed merger between NextEra and HEI

NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE) and Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE) (HEI), whose subsidiaries include Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc., Hawaii Electric Light Company, Inc. and Maui Electric Company Limited (collectively referred to as Hawaiian Electric), today announced that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given its approval to the companies’ proposed merger that was announced in December 2014.

NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE) and Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc., Hawaii Electric Light Company, Inc. and Maui Electric Company Limited (collectively referred to as Hawaiian Electric), subsidiaries of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE) (HEI), today announced that the companies will be hosting a series of 13 open house informational meetings across Hawaii to introduce residents to NextEra Energy and the benefits of the companies’ pending merger as well as to provide members of the public with the opportunity to provide input directly to company officials. The open houses will take place on Oahu, Hawaii Island, Maui, Molokai and Lanai from April 7 to April 16.

In another step to support our customers in integrating more clean, renewable energy, Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaii Electric Light Company today are launching “Integrated Interconnection Queues” (IIQ) for each company. The online tool allows customers and developers to see the status and progress of planned renewable generation projects, including customer-sited rooftop solar as well as mid-sized and utility-scale wind and solar projects.
